6pm-10pm
Muay Thai, also known as the Art of 8 Limbs was developed originally as an ancient combat form designed for war though the traditions also used the movement practices as ritual to seek blessings. This workshop is designed to improve:
- Self coordination
- Observation Skills
- Listening & Communicating with the body
We will begin with engaging and understanding the importance of footwork and the floor patterns we create when moving through space. Communicating intentions of movement and listening to our body as it moves us.
More aspects of the 8 limbs will be introduced as we learn how to throw a punch with the whole body and what it communicates as an actor; is the physical movement of a ‘punch’ only contextualized with violence or can it be performed with beauty and grace? Participants will explore personal narratives of physical scores as they explore movement using Muay Thai traditions.
To develop observation skills and specificity of movement and communication, participants will be paired to observe and practice with each other to create a physical score in communication.
